Government puts its money where the growth is

Council News - hands with growthThe Department of Communities and Local Government announced that Milton Keynes Council will receive £18.2m funding for growth over the next 2 years. This is £3.9m more than government has previously indicated they would give to the Council.

The money will to help fund roads, schools, community centres and green spaces to create complete communities as the city continues to grow.

Council News - ChildcareMilton Keynes has launched its first ever Children in Care Council. The forum, known as 'Today's Children, Tomorrow's Future', will give children and young people in care the chance to talk directly with their 'corporate parents, Milton Keynes Council and its partners, about the issues that affect them.

Council and Serco sign waste and street cleaning deal

Council News - garden waste collectionMilton Keynes Council and environmental services provider Serco last week signed a new contract for waste management and street cleansing services to the residents of Milton Keynes.

The contract signing ceremony was attended by cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Chris Williams, who was delighted to welcome the new deal.

Temporary Move from Coachway

Council News - CoachwayFrom the 26th April 2008 the Coachway will move from its current location at Junction 14 whilst a new coach passenger terminal is constructed.

Long distance coach services currently calling at Junction 14 will move to a temporary location between Montrose Street and Pilgrim Street, off Silbury Boulevard in Campbell Park, where facilities will include a waiting room, café, ticket office, toilets, a shop with taxi booking facilities and approximately 60 adjacent parking spaces. The site will be well lit, have CCTV and 24 hour on-site security.

Disappointment over Latest Children's Services Assessment

MKC children's services chiefs have expressed disappointment at the latest performance assessment from Ofsted. The latest rating - which contributes to the council's vital overall Corporate Performance Assessment (CPA) has fallen from 2 stars (adequate) to 1 star (inadequate).
